We had one group scheduled for one of our workshops on Wednesday, July 26th, but we ended up with three. For us, it was the more the merrier and exciting that people were willing to come work with us on short notice.
One group included three high schoolers who already had production experience at their high school in partnership with WHYY. We gave them some basic guidelines and sent them on their way to check out our equipment and see what they could make. For groups that are excited about making more videos we are offering them free membership to PhillyCAM if they submit five short videos to the Collection!
The other two groups wanted an introduction to smart device video production. We spent time with each group planning a potential video and one of the groups was game to shoot and edit it for the rest of the afternoon. And we got a great little promo for an event in Frankfort and a call to join the group of musicians known as the Stable.
The Iraqi Women's Group, which came on very short notice was grateful for the information but they didn't feel quite ready to be on film themselves.
With the Iraqi Women's Group we spent time working with their personal iPhones, showing them the ropes of iMovie, and the basic montage creator for iPhones. Their enthusiasm was clear, but if we work with them in the future we'll have to encourage them to take the leap in front of the camera.
Hopefully we can reconnect with all the wonderful people we had the opportunity to meet this past Wednesday and help them tell more stories about their lives and work in the Northeast.
