Our first off-site workshop took place this Tuesday! We went to Awbury Arboretum in Germantown to train the staff. Holding a workshop on-site makes a huge difference at a unique place like the arboretum. The staff was able to make use of their surroundings for their video, and both videos ended up focusing on highlights that the arboretum as a landscape has to offer visitors.
One bump in the workshop was getting photos from someone's phone into the PowerDirector timeline. Aliyah had to put the photos she wanted in the video into her Google Drive, then share those photos with our email address, and then finally access them through PowerDirector. It was a hassle and wasted time, next time it will be important to emphasize using the tablets for extra photographs. But there is another posibility with more pre-planning is to get photos shared through Google Drive prior to the workshop so they are easily accessible.
Both videos the Awbury staff created showcased different styles of video, one showed staff as talking heads sharing their favorite places in the arboretum, the other was a montage using text and emojis to guide the audience through the arboretum and all it has to offer.
